The Importance of Keyword Marketing II

Title : The Importance of Keyword Marketing II
Author : : Richard East
In the first part of this two part series, I talked
about keyword marketing and the great
importance it plays in the traffic you receive from
search engine searches. This traffic is called
?¡ãnatural traffic?¡À and is free--compared to traffic
you pay for??we'll cover those methods in
subsequent articles.

Now, in your keyword marketing strategy, it is
important to choose keywords that you think your
visitors will be using when going to Google and
searching for things related to your niche market.

For example, if you have a golf site called Great
American Golf Source that sells golf clubs, clothing,
and gifts, you want to let the search engines
know your site sells these things. So, when I go
to Google and do a search for a golf gift for
Father's Day, sure your keyword marketing has
assured the search engines that your site will give
me plenty of what I'm looking for.

So, you have the right keywords in your HTML
code, you have words on your page that relate to
your keywords that assures the search engines
you really are promoting those items you talk
about in your keyword marketing.

Now, we need to do a few more things so that
your page gets served up as high in the pages of
the millions of search engine results.

1. Headline tags. Okay, so you have your
keywords in your meta tags, now you need to
make sure that those keywords are not only
peppered throughout your page, but they are also
underlined, or bolded, or made headlines of the
different sections. Headline tags are [h1> or
[h2> tags and they serve 2 purposes. First, is
they are formatted to be bigger and bolder than
the rest of your text, so visually they stand out
more than your other text to catch your visitors'
eye.

Next, they tell the search engines that these are
important words related to the content of your
website. So, if your site is about golf, then
important headlines would be ?¡ãFavorite Golf
Courses of the US?¡À or ?¡ãGreat Golf Gifts for
Father's
Day.?¡À

If your keywords are not in any h1 tags or bolded
or underlined, then the search engines are going
to wonder if your site truly is about what your
keyword marketing really says it is.

2. Image tags. Just as we peppered our
keywords throughout our page using h1 and h2
tags, or underlined or bolded them, we also can
put them into a couple of our image tags, to show
the search engines even more relevance to our
keyword marketing phrases.

Let's say the first photo on your page is of Arnold
Palmer teeing off. In your image tag, you could
put an ?¡ãalt=golf clothing?¡À in there, showing the
search engines that not only is your content
relevant to your keywords, but your photos are
too. This increases your reputation with the
search engines that you are somewhat of an
expert in that golf clothing area. And the more
they think you're an expert, the higher your page
will be served up in the results I get when I do a
search for ?¡ãgolf clothing.?¡À

Are you seeing how important it is to incorporate
the right keyword marketing into your site?

3. And now that you've done some on-page
keyword marketing, it's important that you show
the search engines that OTHER sites think your
site is an authority in those keyword phrases.

So, what you do is, any other online marketing
you do, you have a link on those pages or in your
ad or something, and that link points to your golf
web page.

The key here is that you want to make sure you
are sending the right messages to the search
engines. If the link to your site says ?¡ãgo here?¡À
then you are telling the search engines that the
phrase ?¡ãgo here?¡À is relative to your golf site.
Well,
we both know that is not the case.

So what do you do? You put the clickable part of
the link, the ?¡ãanchor tag?¡À to say something like
?¡ãClick here for great information and great golf
gifts for Dad.?¡À So NOW you're telling the search
engines that your site is notable for ?¡ãgreat golf
gifts.?¡À There is a big difference between the two
links above, and it is a very important point to
always remember and use.

Now you have a bunch of words that are related
to you keyword marketing in your [meta
keyword> tag, your [h1> and [h2> tags, you
have them underlined, bolded, in your [img alt>
tags, and now have all your links coming into your
site from other online forms of marketing.

How could the search engines NOT believe your
site is an authority in the area of golf, and
increase your chances of being served up higher
in the search engine results than before?

And that is the whole goal of your keyword
marketing strategy.

In future articles, we're cover more optimization
strategies that will help you win in the search
engine wars for free traffic, as well as talk about
paid traffic and how to get the most bang for your
buck!
