Getting Started
What's a Learning Object?
A Learning Object (LOB) is a self-contained multimedia module
that teaches a group of skills quickly and easily. A typical
LOB will take 20 minutes to complete, with three sections
· The Challenge section where the LOB tests your initial
skill level
· The Lesson section where you learn and practice the LOB’s skill
objectives
· The Test section where the LOB evaluates how well you learned the skill
objectives
Animations and rollover graphics further enhance your learning
experience.
Why do LOBs make eSchool Essentials better than other courseware
and online training services?
Each Learning Object is a self-contained teaching unit that allows
you to learn only what you need, when you need to learn it. LOBs
are logically structured pieces of information that guide you
through skills with plenty of help along the way from audio,
step-by-step instructions, and full color graphics and animations.
Robust simulations recreate the actual application environment,
giving you extensive hands-on training. Instant feedback and
summary assessments gauge your overall progress. To make your
learning experience even easier, many LOBs are available as both
Computer-Based Training (CBT) and Web-Based Training (WBT).
Who uses eSchool Essentials?
Anyone looking to become computer proficient. LOBs are easy to
use - all you need to know is how to use a mouse, type on a
keyboard, and how to start a Web browser. You should also be
familiar with Microsoft Windows.
What if I want to get MOUS certification?
This eSchool Essentials courseware product is strictly based
on Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) exam objectives.
Completing all the LOBs in this course will prepare you for
the MOUS exam.
Using Learning Objects
How do I operate a LOB?
Use your mouse to navigate through the LOB, answer questions,
and practice skills. The LOB may also prompt you to type text
on a keyboard.
How are the Challenge and Test simulations different from the
Lesson simulation?
The Challenge and Test simulations are shorter than the Lesson
simulation. Where the Lesson simulation guides you through a
task, the Challenge and Test simulations require you to perform
a task with minimal guidance.
Can I redo the questions I got wrong?
Yes, you can go back and try questions again.
Why do I get an incorrect response when I perform an action
correctly?
Follow the instructions carefully. You must use the method described
in the LOB.
When I am prompted to type text, why does the LOB mark me incorrect
before I finish typing?
If the LOB instructs you to type a word or phrase that is longer
than three characters, the text will automatically fill in after
you type the first few characters. Watch the screen when you
type.
Is there a time limit on how long it takes to complete each
question?
No. You can take your time to answer the question.
I can’t see the correct answer - the feedback box
is in the way. How can I see it?
To view the correct answer, click the Feedback box and drag it
to a spot on the LOB interface that does not obstruct your view
of the answer.
Where can I find the correct answer in the Lesson simulation?
In the Lesson simulation, you can click the View Step button
to view onscreen the correct method of performing an action.
Where can I view the results of my tests?
You can view test results on the LOB’s Summary screen.
If I have done a LOB already, can I do it over again later?
Yes, you can go back and forth to learn a LOB again and again.
Can I work through a LOB while I have other applications running?
Yes.
