Frequently Asked Questions. Used for customer support
Flash
Product by Macromedia. Flash player is what your browser needs
to display a Flash (.swf) If your browser doesn’t have a flash
player installed once you visit a web site and it detects you
don’t have a flash player it will automatically ask if you want
to download it.
Forum
Online discussion group works the same way a bulletin board or
newsgroup does.
Frames
Frames are used in some web designers to combine several different
web pages into one common area. You might see this sometimes when
you go to a site, select another site and see it open up inside
the first site.
Ftp File Transfer Protocol
Used on the internet to send files. When you download a file into
your computer FTP is how your computer receives the file. If you
are a web designer and you want to transfer your files onto a
server you would use FTP or an FTP program.
GIF
Images file which is allowed on the internet. This file type supports
having a transparent background. Usually used for animations
JPEG
Images file which is allowed on the internet. More detailed than
.gif
Hits
Each time an item is retrieved from a web server it counts as
a hit. This includes even graphics on a web page. One HTML web
page could have several hits when displayed depending on how many
items it displays
HTML (HyperText Markup Language)
Programming language used to create documents on the web. Read
by browser
HTTP (Hyper-Text Transfer Protocol)
Used to transfer files from a web server onto a browser. HTTP
is a one way transfer from the server to the browser.
Hyperlink
Element on a document that links to a location on the same document
or to a different document. Hyperlinks a usually text in a different
color and underlined. When you move your mouse over them your
mouse icon usually changes.
