  • Would you rather get 10 sales from 1000 visitors or 10 sales from 100 visitors?

    Trick question and yes the sales are the same but the core conversation rate is different.  You want the sales regardless but having conversion rates high means that you need less traffic to sell more items.  You are also running more efficiently at 10% conversion than at 1% conversion.

    The correlation is that between the traffic and sales so if you increase your traffic by another 100 your sales will double at 1% conversion you sales will only go up by 1 for every 100 visitors.

    If you have a 1% conversion rate then you need to focus your efforts on why your pages are not converting better.  Don’t look at the traffic place a focus on why.  Try webmaster tools funnel system showing different pages to see what converts better.

    If you have a 10% conversion rate you are doing something really right, now you need to expand and build in more traffic.   Focus your work to generate more quality traffic keeping your conversion rate high and growing with the increase in traffic.

    Average conversion rates are 2-5% depending on what you are selling and what your conversion goal is.

  • When designing a mobile website there are some new considerations to take into account.   The structure itself needs to be different since the output on the screen is smaller and not the standard size.

    The best practice is to create a sub-domain specifically for the mobile page.  You should be able to log into your hosting panel and add a sub-domain.  You can name the sub-domain to anything that makes sense like mobile.mydomain.com or m.mydomain.com.

    Site design and ease of navigation should be considered for mobile and not for a standard full screen user.  Below are some tips for more effective mobile design.
    Focus on shorter text, more precise information.
    Include contact information at the top of the page.
    List image dimensions.
    Make sure the site load quickly.
    Text should be short enough to elimination zooming or scrolling.
    Links and button should be click-able with thumb.
    Search is essential for mobile sites for faster access to content.
    Link your YouTube account at the bottom which should be clickable for easy access

    Include your geotag metatags for geo targeted searches.  A great geo tag generator is at http://www.geo-tag.de/generator/en.html

    In the Metatags also include the viewport tag which controls layout on mobile devices. <meta name=”viewport“>

    Sitemaps for Mobile are different as well
    Include the mobile XML header and tag below the page location.  <mobile:mobile/>

    Quality testing is important with mobile as not all mobile devices are

  • Create something of value online and you will have people coming back for more.  Quality is more important than quantity online, it wins every time.  Search engines are looking for quality, unique different content.  Spending extra time to make something more worthwhile will benefit you in the long run.  The search engines will rank you better and your visitors will return, follow you and even help spread the word about what you have to say.  This way you can enjoy the benefits from the multiplying effects through social media and social booking marking site.

    Its easy to waste time creating content online that will is not effective.  People reproduce same content over and over again not providing any real value to visitors.    The internet is plagued with parrots who repeat the same thing over and over again.  They are not able to establish their own identity and only repeat content that is already out there.

    Differentiate yourself from the crowd, unique content and ideas is the direction to go.
