  • Tips on How to Improve Your Password
Everyone loves the Internet. More than a billion people use it every day regarding work, entertainment and keeping in touch with friends. During the previous two decades our society has long been changed. The way work, society, communities and news is sent out globally has irrevocably transformed the way many people interact with and see our planet.
As the net is now included into lots more facets of daily life, its abilities and usages have increased tremendously. People can efficiently manage his or her everyday life with the Internet. Everyone can go shopping on the net, bank online and even phone with the web. It is hard to think of jobs which haven’t already migrated over to the web.

Nonetheless, with this reliance on the net comes an increased danger. With more valuable information kept on the Internet than in the past, criminals are rapidly turning focus to cyber crime. To overcome this, many applications, sites and technologies have been produced to protect customers and net users. Anti-virus applications, anti-spyware programs, pop-up blockers and also password managers have all been designed with web security in mind.

However, great password security should not be over looked. Having a robust password is an important, first line defence in the struggle versus online crime. There are actually numerous aspects to using a powerful password. The first is size: the lengthier the password, the tougher it is. A ten character password definitely will require more time to hack compared to a five letter password. It is at your discretion just how long you make it but being at least eight characters is the lowest advised length for a reasonably solid password.

Some other important tips are: not to make use of a word for the password, to not start using frequent sequences of characters (abc or 123), to make sure you have varied types of characters (for example lower and upper casing, digits and punctuation characters). It is a great idea to use a random sequence of characters which you learn. Having said that this is regularly challenging to do. Especially taking into consideration it is good to also have a unique security password for each account which you own (that way, if one particular password is jeopardized, it’s a single event).

That is why a password keeper is fantastic. Online password managers eliminate much of the hard work in owning a safe password. With a password manager you can save your passwords to a program or website but by having one, you will also be able to have a robust password. Since it removes the hassle of trying to not forget a password, you are able to literally have just about any combination of characters for a password and not stress about forgetting them.

Password managers are great way to increase your Internet security. If you make us of a web-based password manager then you can log in from anyplace and always be able to remember passwords. Additionally, many password managers also have auto login functions which allow you securely log into your accounts with a single click of a button. This is good because it saves you time but it also protects you from a great deal of potential crime on the Internet.

  • Having a Safer Password
Nearly everyone uses the web. It’s safe to say that it is definitely here to stay and will not be going anywhere fast. It is difficult to imagine a life without the net and computers. Where would people find out news? How would people communicate with one another? How might we buy stuff? Daily routines are rapidly getting difficult to manage. A lot of people use the net because it is quicker and often more convenient. Sadly this also means we have to be increasingly smart with the important information most of us publish on the net. The rise of online crime and identity fraud is a rising concern for people.
First of all, it is crucial to use an excellent password. Too many people have extremely unsafe passwords that are easy to crack. Online criminals use powerful tools that try to hack your account. The weaker your password, the easier it is to hack your accounts. There are some easy rules to have a better password. Arguably the most important rule is to never ever use a password which can be found in a dictionary. Your password should be at least six letters long (the longer the password, the better). There are four types of characters to use for a great password: make use of upper and lower cased characters, use numerical characters and use special characters. Variation is very important for an excellent password, by utilizing four different kinds of characters you will have a strong password. Another easy idea is to exchange normal letters for numbers and special characters. For example, s becomes a $, e becomes a £ or a becomes a 4. These are quite easy steps to follow but having a strong password is often one of the best defences in fighting internet crime.

Secondly, you should always be careful of what you post on the internet. The increasing popularity of social networks and personal homepages has made it increasingly easy for criminals to commit online identity theft. It is always important to check what personal information you are publishing on the net. The anonymity of the net and the ease at which all of us can communicate with other people has meant people are often rather relaxed when it comes to the personal information they upload on to the net. Private information like your age and your address are details which are important to keep private. If you do make this information public then you should definitely make it private and share it only with other people that you trust.

One thing to try is using an online password management service. There are lots of free services you can use that make handling your online account details easier and safer. Password management tools work by storing your username and password details safely and securely on the web. They either work by being local to your PC (where you install them) or by being online (where you register for an online account). They are very useful tools because they take away the hassle of remembering complex passwords. What this means is you are able to have really good passwords and use unique passwords for each account that you have. A password is undermined by using the same password for all your accounts. Some will also log you into your accounts for you. However, people do not automatically trust online password managers but they are especially helpful and really safe.

In conclusion, you should continue to be mindful of two points: use a strong password and be watchful of what information you post on the web. These are two easy to understand recommendations and while it may be tempting to ignore them, being safe online is one thing everyone should really take into consideration.

  • Spyware refers to a specific type of illegal software that can either display unwanted advertisements or track your personal information, all without your knowledge or consent. The most serious danger of spyware is that it can collect information about you, including the websites you visited and even worse, your unique usernames and passwords. You can find many softwares that can provide spy ware scan. Obviously, spyware is not good for your PC or yourself, but there are ways that you can protect yourself from it.
One of the most obvious sign of spyware is if your computer is running slow or displaying any other unusual behavior. Spyware can bounce back emails or send emails without your knowledge. It can also appear to “haunt” your PC, opening your CD drives or placing unknown icons on your desktop.

Avoid Phishing Scams “Phishing” is the attempt to collect sensitive data (usernames, passwords, secure financial information) while appearing to be a reliable and legitimate entity. Phishing scams often find their way to your Inbox in the form of e-mails (or as an instant message) from auction sites or social networking sites, etc. The e-mails link to sites that look almost identical to the legitimate site.

Refrain from downloading an e-mail attachment without knowing who the email is from. In fact, we would go as far to suggest not opening every single attachment from trusted sources too. Therefore what do you do? You can not address every email as questionable, can you? Sure you can, but you do not have to be paranoid. The easiest thing to do is to simply read the mail. Presumably, you know your contacts to some degree and can be able to tell if something in the body of the email sounds fishy. If you’re not sure, you can always call that person and ask!

Email continues to get safer and safer. The majority of email providers use complex filters that do their best to ensure reliable transmission of emails. Providers all give you the choice to scan your email attachments before downloading, but you want to use proper judgement in transmitting out your confidential information to questionable websites. As A Matter Of Fact, if in doubt do not respond to the email. Looking to find the best deal on spy ware scan, then visit www.freepcvirusscan.com to find the best advice on house call scan for you.

  • Backlinking is important to any SEO strategy and directories are usually seen as a first step.  The idea is to list your site in directories which create links back your site building your own sites link strength.  The more sites that link to you means better Search Engine rankings, or does it?  Not all directories are created or seen as equal.  I’ve listed out the top 10 things to look for when you submit to a directory site.

    1. Look through the site if you find there are broken links this is a sign that the directory isn’t kept up and usually a site to avoid this type of directory
    2. Check to see how the directory itself ranks in the search engines.  No PageRank and not being listed in the SERPs is another type of directory to avoid.
    3. No quality links in the directory, if it is full of bad spammy links and sites this is a good indication you should avoid this directory.  Search engines look for sites that are trustworthy and will keep coming back for more traffic.  If the content of the site or directory is deemed to be of bad quality it will have the effect of the search engines not indexing the page.  Search engines have more of a chance of seeing the whole site and page of the directory as more trustworthy if the content is good.
    4. Too many ads on the site will also discourage SERPs from seeing a quality directory.  The ad ratio must be reasonable.
    5. Pay a nominal amount to get listed, be careful with these type of sites that only list when you pay them.  From the bigger picture point of view important sites won’t be paying to list on it meaning that the directory will be full of lower quality links and sites.
    6. Clone sites, ad no real value to the internet.  If it’s the same as another the quality of these copy sites bring no real value to the internet and search engines will not see them as trustworthy.
    7. Look at the site headers and footers, are there site wide links going out.  This is generally a bad site to avoid.
    8. List yourself where you are relevant.  Look for categories within the directory where you fit.  Only list in a relevant category.  Look at the sites that are already listed, are they relevant to the category?
    9. Auto generated content and categories are not a good sign of a quality directory.  If you find the description is cut off half way through a word, there are empty categories this is something you want to avoid.  It means that the site hasn’t be properly edited and usually a good sign of auto generated content.
    10. If it doesn’t feel right you should avoid it.   Having a bunch of bad links doesn’t do any good for your site ranking or traffic.  Its sometimes better to avoid making the mistake of listing in a spam directory as you run the risk of being categorized with the site and its contents.

The overall goal of backlinking is to build good quality links that over time will help build your website value online.  Trustworthy sites are crawled more frequently and will result in better value for your time and link.  Backlinking is not easy but once you build a list of good quality sites to submit to you will be much better off in the long run.
