UNIX
This course presents the basics of using a UNIX operating system
(OS) and introduces several useful electronic communication programs
available through UNIX. The course begins with an introduction
to the features and capabilities, and main components of a UNIX
OS. The following tasks are covered; logging in and off, running
programs, creating files, setting the terminal type, changing or
assigning a password, and communicating with other users. Learn
how the system organizes information into files and directories,
how to create simple text files, insert text, and view these files
on the screen. Standard input, output, and error are introduced.
You will be introduced to the mail processing utility and learn
how to read and reply to mail items, display the header list, and
end the mail processing utility.

This course presents the basics of using a UNIX operating system, including

and to the way they work together. It also discusses the UNIX operating system's
ability to support
more than one user and to do more than one thing at a time. The following tasks
are covered;
logging in, logging off, and running programs, creating files, setting the
terminal type, changing or
assigning a password, and communicating with other users. The student will
also be introduced to
how the system organizes information into files and directories, how to create
simple text files, insert
text, and how to view these files on the screen. The student is introduced
to standard input,
standard output, and standard error, and ways to redirect standard input and
standard output.
Also introduced is the malix program and how the text is sent to the user's
mailfile, where it can be
read at the recipient's convenience. The course introduces the student to the
mail processing utility
where how to read and reply to mail items, how to display the header list,
and how to end the mail
processing utility are covered. This course is not written to a version
