Making phone
calls over the internet is nothing new. Although the technology is
constantly evolving and improving one of the latest and most signification
evolutions is that of Skype.com
Skype is
brought to us by the same people that brought us Kazaa the file sharing
peer to peer network. There are some similarities in the functionally
but unlike Kazaa, Skype isn't controversial because it does not infringe
on copyright. It’s free to use and download.
Skype is
built on a technology similar to that of which Kazaa is based on. The
systems get stronger with every new PC which is added to it. The more
servers the system has the stronger the system becomes.
Skype was
started in the beginning of September 2003 and has grown very rapidly
since then. More than 1 million users have downloaded this software
since then.
Skype test
versions currently only offer PC to PC calls now. Future versions will
be offering calls from PC to Phone, and mobile phones.
