THE BEST WAY TO UNDERSTAND IT IS TO TRY IT
Choose a method.
Make Workspace work.
32 practical workshops built around Google’s own methods. Open files, write reports, copy templates, create documents, add menus and install deliberate automations.
READ THE EVIDENCE / FIX THE CAUSE
The debugging gym.
Repair deliberately broken functions. Predict the failure, make a small change, then run the regression checks.
EXPERIMENT / OBSERVE / EXPLAIN
Your automation laboratory.
Edit a sheet, inspect an event, step through a batch, or personalize a draft. Every result here is a local simulation.
A range becomes a two-dimensional array.
Edit the cells, choose a range, then inspect or write its values. Coordinates are one-based; array indexes are zero-based. This grid stores plain text.
Equivalent Apps Script
Values & shape
No formulas, dates, formatting, permissions or Google Sheets connection are simulated.
Same handler name. Different execution context.
Guard decision
Illustrated event data
Ranges and source objects are illustrated as plain descriptors. Actual event objects expose methods and vary by trigger; user identity may be unavailable.
See the cost of crossing the service boundary.
Teaching model: one read + one write per batch. Excludes overhead, retries and computation. These are estimates, not actual service quotas or execution promises. Check current Google limits before deployment.
Personalize. Inspect. Keep control.
LOCAL PREVIEW / NEVER SENT
Only {{name}} and {{email}} are supported. Unknown tokens are reported. Text is displayed literally, not rendered as HTML. A real Gmail draft requires authorization in Apps Script.
SMALL PATTERNS / REAL TRANSFER
Find the method for your next script.
Read the execution notes before using a snippet in a Google test project. These are focused patterns, not complete production applications.
FROM ISOLATED SKILLS TO A WORKING APP
Make it useful. Make it yours.
Download a working starter, extend it, then document the checks you actually run. Each project combines multiple lessons.
UNDERSTANDING NEEDS ANOTHER VISIT
Recall it. Explain it. Keep it.
Your progress is evidence of practice. Revisit concepts without looking at the lesson first.
Recall practice
Completed lessons enter a local review queue. Rate your recall after revealing the explanation.
Your next useful step
How completion works
Complete a lesson by passing its current code checks, answering both questions correctly, and writing a reflection of at least 30 characters. Code changes invalidate the previous check result. Viewing a solution is recorded honestly; it does not prevent further learning.
Recall ratings schedule another review in 10 minutes, 1 day, or 3 days. This simple schedule is stored on this device, not a scientific estimate of mastery.

Selected Sheets, Drive, Docs, Forms, Calendar, Gmail draft, mail-quota, Properties, Lock, Cache, UrlFetch, Utilities, ScriptApp trigger and bound UI methods. The inspector shows local resource records. Lab is a test helper, not a Google API.
It does not authorize Google access, send mail, create real files, run real triggers, render arbitrary sidebar HTML, enforce real quotas or reproduce full API behavior. Display values use primitive-to-string conversion, date formatting supports UTC/yyyy-MM-dd only, Drive fixtures are small, Docs has one modeled tab, and locks are not distributed. Real permissions, timezone behavior, formulas, publication and concurrency require Google testing.
An independent DiscoveryVIP learning resource. Google Apps Script is a Google product; this Studio is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. Basic JavaScript familiarity helps. Focus here on the built-in API; visit the Apps Script Trainer for coding foundations.
