This course is designed to present a comprehensive view of the client/server application. The course outlines the structure and elements of client/server architecture, interfaces available, strategies in accessing data from the client side through queries, and tools available with SQL Server 7.0 to improve and enhance the query process. The student will learn to create a multi-tiered client/server structure and to use OLE DB, ActiveX, ODBCDirect, Microsoft English Query, Query Analyzer and to create and evaluate queries. The special features that distinguish SQL Server 7.0 from version 6.5 are highlighted.
Developing SQL Client/Server Part I training covers such topics as:
Client/Server Architecture
New Features for APIs
ODBC Features
Database administrators, Database analysts, and Database developers who are
working toward the Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) credential
will benefit from this course. The series is designed to help the student pass
the Microsoft Exam 70-028: Administering Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and Exam
70-029: Designing and Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
Description
This course is designed to present a comprehensive view of the client/server
application. The
course outlines the structure and elements of client/server architecture,
interfaces available,
strategies in accessing data from the client side through queries, and
tools available with SQL
Server 7.0 to improve and enhance the query process. The student will learn
to create a multi-tiered
client/server structure and to use OLE DB, ActiveX, ODBCDirect, Microsoft
English Query, Query
Analyzer and to create and evaluate queries. In a corporate setting, the
primary factors in
implementing a client/server application are the client/server architecture,
the client-side means for
manipulating data, client-side design and optimization techniques, and
means of accessing the
data. The special features that distinguish SQL Server 7.0 from version
6.5 are highlighted, including
query improvements such as support for heterogeneous queries and a new
query product that
allows users to submit queries in English. This course is written to SQL
Server 7.0. Related Exams:
Prepares users for both Microsoft Exams #070-028 Administering Microsoft
SQL Server 7.0 and
#070-029 Designing and Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server
7.0.
Audience
Database administrators, Database analysts, and Database developers who
are working toward
the Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) credential. The
series is designed to help
the student pass the Microsoft Exam 70-028: Administering Microsoft SQL
Server 7.0 and Exam 70-029:
Designing and Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. This
series is also appropriate
for individuals who derive physical database designs, develop logical data
models, create physical
databases, create data services by using Transact-SQL, manage and maintain
databases,
configure and manage security, monitor and optimize databases, and install
and configure
Microsoft SQL Server.
Prerequisites
Students understand computer system fundamentals, and have user knowledge
of Windows 95,
Microsoft Office, Internet browsing, and HTML, and e-mail systems. Students
are expected to have
successfully completed SQL Server 7.0: Introduction, SQL Server 7.0: Installing
and Upgrading, SQL
Server 7.0: Management Parts I, II, and III, SQL Server 7.0: Database Administration
Part I and Part II,
and SQL Server 7.0: Data Warehousing Using SQL Part I and Part II courses.
