Description
This course provides an advance look at OS/390 Shell and Utilities, which provide
commands for using OS/390 UNIX System Services. The course covers advanced
shell scripts and commands, including shell command options, and combining
commands and special characters. It also covers writing shell scripts, which
includes running shell scripts, using variables, parameters, and using control
structures and functions. The hierarchical file systems are covered as well
as file systems, files and directories, path and pathname, using commands,
and the ISPF shell to work with files and directories. Working with files and
directories is covered and includes changing and managing directories, creating
a file and using an editor, creating links, searching and browsing files, backing
up and restoring files, and file security. The student will learn about manipulating
files, which includes editing files, printing files, copying files, and transferring
files between systems. This course is written to OS/390 2.x.
Audience
This course is designed for system programmers developing applications in the
OS/390 UNIX
environment.
Prerequisites
Students should be familiar with the concepts covered in the Course Technology
courses UNIX
System Services-Concepts and Facilities, and UNIX System Services-Intermediate.
They should also
have a basic facility with the C programming language.
